Puttu - South Indian breakfast. One of my favorite food. Traditionally made with rice flour or wheat flour but making with Rava is very easy. You will need puttu mold for that.
2 cups Rava or Sooji or Samolina 1 tsp. salt 1 cup coconut grated 1/2 cup sugar Banana
Method: Roast dry Rava in a pan. Add salt. Keep it until it is cool. Fill the water in puttu jar and let it boil. Mix the grated coconut and sugar and set aside. Take some water and sprinkle over rava occationally and rub so that it becomes like bread crumb. It would take some time. Every time you need to sprinkle only one tbl. spoon of water and rub it. Otherwise it would have big lumps. When it looks like bread crumb stop the process. Now take the puttu mold and add one tbl. Spoon of coconut mixture then Rava which looks like bread crumbs, until you finish the whole mold. Close the lid and put over puttu jar. Cook 2-3 minutes after you see steam coming from the upper lid holes. Remove from heat. Unmold it pushing it from back side. Eat with banana mashed and a tsp. of sugar. |
