Gulab Jamun - Milk Balls in Sugar Syrup By Sherly at 2015-08-26 08:49:18
|
For Syrup 4 cups Sugar and 4 cups of water 2 teaspoons cardamom powder 1/4 teaspoon saffron Boil together Sugar and Water until the sugar dissolves When it boils turn off the heat and add: 2 teaspoons cardamom powder 1/4 teaspoon saffron Set the syrup aside, we will boil it again for 5 minutes after adding milk balls in it.
To make Milk Balls Take in a bowl: 2 cups powdered milk (PS: it is not creamer but dry milk available in Aldi) 1/2 cups of all-purpose flour 1 teaspoon baking soda (you can use baking powder to make Mava-bati) Pour 1 cup of heavy cream Mix well with a spoon, don't worry if it is sticky. Leave it for 5-10 minutes. If it is still sticky use little bit of all purpose flour to make soft dough. Make small balls; make sure that it has no cracks in it. Set aside and cover with a damp cloth.
Heat enough oil in a deep frying pan to fry the milk balls in slow to medium heat. You will need approx 3-4 cups of oil. Fry until golden brown. Remove from oil.
Oil should not be very hot or very cold otherwise it would not come nicely. When you have finished frying all the balls, put them in sugar syrup. Boil the syrup for 5 minutes. Let is soak for few hours before serving.
